چکیده

We show how to obtain the two dimensional black hole action by a dimensional reduction of the three dimensional Einstein action with a non-zero cosmological constant. Starting from the Chern-Simons formulation of 2+1 gravity, we obtain the 1+1-dimensional gauge formulation given by Verlinde. Remarkably, the proposed reduction shares the relevant features of the formulation of Cangemi and Jackiw, without the need for a central charge in the algebra. We show how the Lagrange multipliers in these formulations appear naturally as the remnants of the three-dimensional connection associated to symmetries that have been lost in the dimensional reduction. The proposed dimensional reduction involves a shift in the three dimensional connection whose effect is to make the length of the extra dimension infinite.

Particles on a Circle in Canonical Lineal Gravity

Abstract A description of the canonical formulation of lineal gravity minimally coupled to N point particles in a circular topology is given. The Hamiltonian is found to be equal to the time-rate of change of the extrinsic curvature multiplied by the proper circumference of the circle. Exact solutions for pure gravity and for gravity coupled to a single particle are obtained. The presence of a ...

N ov 1 99 8 Exact Relativistic Two - Body Motion in Lineal Gravity

We consider the N-body problem in (1 + 1) dimensional lineal gravity. For 2 point masses (N = 2) we obtain an exact solution for the relativistic motion. In the equal mass case we obtain an explicit expression for their proper separation as a function of their mutual proper time. Our solution gives the exact Hamiltonian to infinite order in the gravitational coupling constant.

Poincaré Gauge Theories for Lineal Gravity

We have shown that two of the most studied models of lineal gravities – Liouville gravity and a “string-inspired” model exhibiting the main characteristic features of a black-hole solution – can be formulated as gauge invariant theories of the Poincaré group. The gauge invariant couplings to matter (particles, scalar and spinor fields) and explicit solutions for some matter field configurations...

Exact Charged Two-Body Motion and the Static Balance Condition in Lineal Gravity

We find an exact solution to the charged 2-body problem in (1 + 1) dimensional lineal gravity which provides the first example of a relativistic system that generalizes the Majumdar-Papapetrou condition for static balance. email: [email protected] The static balance problem is a long-standing problem in gravitational physics. Originally motivated by attempts to find exact solutions of th...
